Website aims to help teens connect globally

Local Video Producer and Entrepreneur Stan Cottle addresses the monthly meeting of the European American Business Club at O’Kanes Irish Pub and Eatery

Amelia Island– September 15, Local video producer and entrepreneur Stan Cottle addressed the monthly meeting of the European American Business Club Members at O'Kanes Irish Pub and Eatery September 8, where he introduced his new website for teens worldwide and the concept of providing a place where they can connect globally to begin the process of understanding themselves.

Part of his presentation was a video trailer that addressed underage drinking and the challenges that today’s teenager face.  This clip caught the attention of the some 45 club members which resulted in a lively discussion about the subject.  All agreed that this is a great way of connecting teens and addressing the problems they face.

Stan Cottle presenting In Search of Me Cafe

The  “In Search of Me Café” website (www.insearchofmecafe.com), created by Caroline Blochlinger of CB Advertising Services, addresses many of the problems teenagers face.  It is moderated by teens and provides a place to learn and to interact with others around the world.  Even parents can find suggestions of how to help their teens cope.

This project is still in its infancy and requires funding.  Cottle hopes to attract some corporate interest and has been actively looking for supporters. So far the site has caught the attention of Denise Brown, sister of the late Nicole Brown-Simpson, who claims this site is what is so desperately needed for our young people.  The United Nations invited Stan to discuss the “In Search Of Me” project on a larger scale.

BRINGING THE WORLD TO NASSAU

  Steve Rieck speaking to EABC

Steve Rieck, executive director of the nonprofit Nassau County Economic Development Board, speaks at a European American Business Club meeting held at The Lofton Creek Outpost at North Hampton on Wednesday.

There's a growing group on Amelia Island whose main purpose is to promote international business in the area. They meet monthly to plot, plan and discuss ways to attract companies from across the Atlantic to Nassau County. They network and share ideas, knowledge and leads.
But it's not a monotonous meeting of dull suits. When they meet they laugh together, eat together, have a good time and develop friendships.
Most members of this group weren't' born in Nassau County. In fact, most members of the group weren't born in the United States at all. Most were born in Europe, but have come to love it here and now call it home.
The European American Business Club was started in January by Helmut Albrecht and Tim Burningham. Albrecht is a business advisor originally from Germany. Burningham is a small-business counselor with SCORE who is originally from the United Kingdom.
The group is growing fast and now has about 70 members. Not all are from Europe. Some were born and raised here. Some come from places such as South America and the Caribbean. No matter where they're from all share a love for Amelia Island.
Albrecht calls the club a grassroots movement to network and develop business. There are no dues, nor are there any rules or regulations. The group is open to anyone.
"We've decided to just let this group grow organically," Albrecht said.
The group meets at 6 pm the second Wednesday of each month at different venues. Meetings start and end with networking but feature a speaker as well.
Steve Rieck, executive director of the nonprofit Nassau County Economic Development Board, spoke to a group at Wednesday's meeting about his organizations's mutual efforts to promote Nassau County and attract European business and investments.
The group has other gatherings, too. You can meet them today at O'Kane's Pub at 318 Centre street in Fernandina Beach for the U.S. vs U.K World Cup soccer match. Kick-off is at 2 pm. It's free, and it's just for fun.
